The Wonder Years
The Wonder Years is about a boy and his life in his adolescent years. The main characters of this show are namely - Kevin Arnold, Paul and Winnie Cooper. As Kevin goes from adolescence to adulthood, he experiences the full range of trials and traumas that comes about in the lives of every teenager. It's about an unsaid relationship between him and Winnie. It's about how with the turn of events, time, every now and then keeps bringing them back together.
Each one of us, be it a boy or a girl, has at some point in time in their lives, associated themselves with Kevin and his adolescent years. He has been a role model in ways more than one for us during our growing up years. The anxiety with which I watched the serial during my childhood days, is something I still remember very distinctly. How by the end of every episode, I would hope that Winnie would end up with Kevin. How Paul and Kevin's friendship withstood every storm that they could possibly face, even at a time when Paul develops feelings for Winnie. And how my heart would rage with anger for Kevin, that how could Paul possibly have feelings for his friend's childhood sweetheart. And even if he did, how could he muster up the courage to act upon those feelings. How could a true friend not understand you and do something like that.
The Wonder Years played a crucial part in my life as I was growing up. I still recall those days, when no matter where I was, I would make an attempt to be home on time to catch the next episode of this serial. And how when I missed it, I would be cursing my luck. I remember how the situations in the show were comical and good fun. It also impacted me and made me think after the show would come to an end about Kevin's adolescent pain.
This was an awesome show and I never got tired of watching it. It is yet again, back. Zee Cafe airs it sometime during the week. And watching reruns brings back great memories for me. If you ever have the chance or the time to catch one of the episodes my advice would be - Go for it!
To great times...cheers!
